We are proud to announce that Jeanne Gates, Laurel Ridge Special Education Teacher, has been selected as the VFW 2022 Virginia Elementary Teacher of the Year! After winning at the local level through VFW Post 8469, Ms. Gates' application was advanced to the state level where she was selected as the VFW 2022 Elementary Teacher of the Year for the state of Virginia.

This award recognizes Mrs. Gates’ outstanding commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to her students. Ms. Gates serves as the lead Social Studies teacher for Laurel Ridge and supports staff in accessing instructional resources to support the curriculum. In addition, Ms. Gates collaboratively plans and directs our Veterans Day program. Outside of Laurel Ridge, Ms. Gates is an active volunteer with “We the People, the Citizen, and the Constitution.”  Through this program, she supports instruction based on the principles of American constitutional democracy.
